Sample Run

Also known as: Pre-Production Sample, Strike-Off

Producing one or two pieces before the full order to confirm the design and quality.

A sample run produces a single (or small handful of) pieces from your order before the full quantity is printed. The point is to verify color, placement, garment fit, and overall quality before committing to 100+ pieces.

Most shops offer paid samples — you pay full per-piece price plus rush, or sometimes a flat $30–$50 sample fee. Some will refund the sample cost if you proceed with the full order.

Samples are especially worth it for: corporate orders that need executive sign-off, fashion brands launching new pieces, and anyone using a printer for the first time. For repeat orders with the same artwork, samples are usually unnecessary.
