Bleed
Extending the design slightly past the cut line so there are no white edges after trimming.
Bleed is extra design that extends beyond the final cut line of a printed piece — typically 1/8 inch (3mm) on each edge. When the printer trims the piece, the cut goes through the bleed area, guaranteeing the design reaches the very edge with no white slivers showing.
Bleed mostly matters for paper printing (business cards, brochures, posters) and all-over apparel printing. For standard t-shirt prints with margin around the design, bleed is not needed.
When submitting print-ready files for paper jobs, always include 1/8 inch bleed and a "safe area" 1/8 inch inside the cut line where critical text and elements live. Files without bleed often arrive at the print shop and need to be re-sent.
